On the other hand, recently, museums open to society not only on-site but also online. Thus, the virus’s spread would be an occasion to shift museum communications and widen virtual access to the museum. This paper aims to examine whether social media usage changed by long-term closure for nationwide quarantine in 2020. The Republic of Lithuania is the case to examine this research question; 18 national museums that use social media for their public relations are the target of this research. The author recorded 5,586 Facebook posts by Lithuanian national museums from January 1st to December 31st, 2020. The number of posts (before, during, and after the first and second quarantine) is statistically analyzed by the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Through the year 2020, the weekly average number of the posts repeatedly increased and decreased. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test proved that the weekly average number of the posts increased during the first closure for quarantine than the pre-COVID 19 period ( α =0.05). The weekly amount of social media posts dropped after the first quarantine, and it did not recover by the second quarantine.
