nisusの営巣木および営巣林分の特徴を調べた．調査は2007年～2010年の間に確認した31の営巣木および営巣林分（営巣木を中心とした0.1 haプロット）と営巣に利用されなかった37の林分（非営巣林分）を比較した．その結果，ハイタカが営巣木および営巣林分の樹種にもっとも多く利用したのはカラマツLarix kaempferiであった．しかし，営巣林分と非営巣林分との比較では，常緑針葉樹への選好性が示された．営巣した林分と非営巣林分の植生構造の比較の結果，ハイタカの林分は胸高直径および樹高ともにより小さく，低い下枝高，胸高断面積および立木密度は高い値を示し，ハイタカは構造的に林内空間の閉じた若齢林を選択していた．この常緑樹の若齢林へ選好性は，同所的に生息する捕食者のオオタカA.
