Recently, we showed that the anti-parasitic action of inorganic nanoparticles (NPs) could, in part, be due to changes in redox status as well as in the parasite mitochondrial membrane potential. \nMethods\nIn the present study, we explored the in vitro mode of action of the anti-T. gondii effect of NPs by evaluating the contributions of host cellular processes, including the tryptophan pathway and hypoxia-inducing factor activity. NPs, at concentrations ranging from 0.01 to 200 μg/ml were screened for anti-parasitic activity. Sulfadiazine and/or pyrimethamine served as positive controls.\nResults\nWe found that interplay among multiple host cellular processes, including HIF-1α activity, indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase activity, and to a larger extent the tryptophan pathway, contribute to the anti-parasitic action of NPs. \nConclusion To our knowledge, this is the first study to demonstrate an effect of NPs on the tryptophan and/or kynurenine pathway. \nGeneral significance\nOur findings deepen our understanding of the mechanism of action of NPs and suggest that modulation of the host nutrient pool may represent a viable approach to the development of new and effective anti-parasitic agents.","subitem_description_language":"en","subitem_description_type":"Abstract"}]},"item_2_publisher_8":{"attribute_name":"出版者","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_publisher":"Elsevier","subitem_publisher_language":"en"}]},"item_2_rights_15":{"attribute_name":"権利","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_rights":"This is an open access article under the CC BY-NC-ND license (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/BY-NC-ND/4.0/).","subitem_rights_language":"en"}]},"item_2_source_id_9":{"attribute_name":"ISSN","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_source_identifier":"24055808","subitem_source_identifier_type":"PISSN"}]},"item_2_subject_21":{"attribute_name":"日本十進分類法","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_subject":"464","subitem_subject_scheme":"NDC"}]},"item_2_version_type_20":{"attribute_name":"著者版フラグ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_version_resource":"http://purl.org/coar/version/c_970fb48d4fbd8a85","subitem_version_type":"VoR"}]},"item_creator":{"attribute_name":"著者","attribute_type":"creator","attribute_value_mlt":[{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Adeyemi, Oluyomi Stephen","creatorNameLang":"en"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Murata, Yuho","creatorNameLang":"en"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Sugi, Tatsuki","creatorNameLang":"en"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{}]},{"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Han, Yongmei","creatorNameLang":"en"}],"nameIdentifiers":[{}]},{"creatorAffiliations":[{"affiliationNameIdentifiers":[{"affiliationNameIdentifier":""}],"affiliationNames":[{"affiliationName":""}]}],"creatorNames":[{"creatorName":"Kato, Kentaro","creatorNameLang":"en"},{"creatorName":"加藤, 健太郎","creatorNameLang":"ja"}],"familyNames":[{},{}],"givenNames":[{},{}],"nameIdentifiers":[{},{},{}]}]},"item_files":{"attribute_name":"ファイル情報","attribute_type":"file","attribute_value_mlt":[{"accessrole":"open_date","date":[{"dateType":"Available","dateValue":"2018-01-30"}],"displaytype":"detail","filename":"1-s2.0-S2405580817301267-main.pdf","filesize":[{"value":"3.2 MB"}],"format":"application/pdf","licensetype":"license_11","mimetype":"application/pdf","url":{"label":"1-s2.0-S2405580817301267-main.pdf","url":"https://obihiro.repo.nii.ac.jp/record/1246/files/1-s2.0-S2405580817301267-main.pdf"},"version_id":"032c438e-4a0f-479e-88c6-5eb4304699aa"}]},"item_keyword":{"attribute_name":"キーワード","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_subject":"Hypoxia","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"Indoleamine 2,3-dioxygenase","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"Mechanism of action","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"Nanomedicine","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"},{"subitem_subject":"Toxoplasmosis","subitem_subject_language":"en","subitem_subject_scheme":"Other"}]},"item_language":{"attribute_name":"言語","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_language":"eng"}]},"item_resource_type":{"attribute_name":"資源タイプ","attribute_value_mlt":[{"resourcetype":"journal article","resourceuri":"http://purl.org/coar/resource_type/c_6501"}]},"item_title":"Modulation of host HIF-1α activity and the tryptophan pathway contributes to the anti-Toxoplasma gondii potential of nanoparticles","item_titles":{"attribute_name":"タイトル","attribute_value_mlt":[{"subitem_title":"Modulation of host HIF-1α activity and the tryptophan pathway contributes to the anti-Toxoplasma gondii potential of nanoparticles","subitem_title_language":"en"}]},"item_type_id":"2","owner":"12","path":["5"],"pubdate":{"attribute_name":"PubDate","attribute_value":"2017-10-16"},"publish_date":"2017-10-16","publish_status":"0","recid":"1246","relation_version_is_last":true,"title":["Modulation of host HIF-1α activity and the tryptophan pathway contributes to the anti-Toxoplasma gondii potential of nanoparticles"],"weko_creator_id":"12","weko_shared_id":-1},"updated":"2024-02-28T03:11:14.224878+00:00"}
